A lot of parents force kids to eat everything on their plate.  Maybe your parents were like this.  The rational has something to do with eating a balanced meal and not wasting any food.  Eat all your vegetables and clean your plate.  You probably heard something like, “appreciate the food that you have and eat it up because there are a lot of starving kids in Africa”.  While the sentiment was good, little did they know that they were instilling some really bad habits in you.

Now that you’re an adult, you’ll feel full but you’ll still feel compelled to finish all the food that you still have left.  But why?  You’re already full!  You don’t have to eat any more.  A lot of people will keep eating without even thinking.  If it’s point it out, they’ll say that they don’t want to waste their food.

So here are few things you can do.

Remember, by eating after you’re full you’re consuming extra calories that you really don’t need.  These extra calories make it difficult to get rid of the excess fat that you’re trying to lose.  Start to be more conscious of your eating habits.  Be aware of your body and realize when you’re full.  Making this change to your eating will make a big difference, especially when you combine it with the other tips on this website.

Getting Rid of Fat with Basic Cardio Exercise

Later on we’ll get into more details with specific exercises you can do to get rid of the fat around the waist area.  First, you have to make sure that you’re maintaining at least a minimum level of physical activity with some basic cardio exercises.  Especially if you’re not doing any exercise at all, it’s important to get moving.

Start slow.  You will want to be able to keep up your new habit.  The most basic and easy exercise to get your heart going is walking.  For one month, walk 30 minutes just twice a week.  This is still below general guidelines, but the goal for now is just to get you moving.  The next month, add an extra day for 30 minutes to get up to 3 times a week.  In month 3, you’ll add another day to get up  to 4 times a week.  This should be the absolute minimum for anyone.  After the first 3 months, add a 5th day or start increasing the amount of time you walk in increments of 5 minutes a month.

Slow and steady is the name of the game.  If you stay motivated and keep  the course you will see results.  Follow this plan and you’ll be doing at least 5 hours of cardiovascular exercise within a year.  You’ll be amazed how much better you’ll look and feel.  Couple this with some basic changes to your diet, ab area exercises, and other habit changes and  you will be able to get rid of those stubborn love handles and get that toned stomach area you never thought possible.
